Suzi Parron : Barn Quilts
At first glance I thought that these were actual quilts just tacked onto barns somewhere in the middle of nowhere. Further observation led me to realize that these Barn Quilts are actually paintings that are found on various barns. These pattern paintings are very unique and beautiful just like a beautiful quilt.
Suzi Parron wrote the book Barn Quilts and The American Quilt Trail Movement, which covers various purposes and traditions of Barn Quilts.
It’s difficult to pinpoint the various ways barn quilts touch people’s lives; they often serve as memorials to lost relatives, sources of pride that bring families together, or just as beautiful displays of public art. There are thousands of barn quilts, many of which are strung together into local driving trails, that span 30 states from New York down to Texas.
