Ben van Berkel x UNStudio – National Art Museum of China

Such an incredible design has been created by Ben van Berkel and UNStudio. These two have created a spectacular design for the National Art Museum of China, which will be located in the capital city of Beijing.

The futuristic design fits perfectly into the newer image of the Peoples Republic of China.  Especially in the picture above – lights, colors, water, and all that other jazz.  I like this design a lot because it is supposed to represent ancient Chinese stone drums.  It is always a plus when people incorporate culture into design.

The galleries on the inside have tons of space to provide the artists and curators the perfect amount of room to display their work.

Whilst the architecture of the museum is represented by the ancient artifact of the stone drum, the art within represents its spirit, or its “essence”. In the same way that the agile strokes of ink in a Chinese painting give spirit to a blank piece of paper, the art collection gives spirit to the museum
